Positive: Applepips is 20 minutes walk from the centre of Stirling, giving a great choice of pubs and restaurants within easy reach. We wanted to be based in a central location to explore and discover the local attractions around Stirlingshire. We also wanted a house which was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Applepips met them with aplomb. There was something about Applepips which was very calming and relaxing. All the rooms were interconnected and there was a sun room at the back overlooking the beautiful garden. With a large lounge and separate dining room and 3 large bedrooms there was plenty of space to do your own thing or gather in one room. After the busy days we slept well as the beds were very comfortable and cosy. Stirling has 3 main attractions of the Castle, Wallace monument and the Bannockburn centre. The castle sits on top of a large volcanic hill overlooking the area. Amazing views of the Trossachs, Ochills and the surrounding area from the battlement walls. Stirling bridge can be seen where Braveheart (William Wallace) won his famous battle. It was where the Scottish kings resided so there is so much history. And there is a castle café serving food which is very welcome after a whole day looking around. Doune castle is a ruined castle 15mins drive away. Hired an audio guide as the tour is narrated by monty pyton and is hilarious and informative. Other films have been shot here such as Outlander and Game of Thrones. Totally recommended. We combined it with a visit to Deanston distillery just a couple of minutes away. Had the informative whiskey tour and the obligatory tasting at the end. If you are driving you can take a sample away with you. We climbed Wallace monument, probably around 200 steps to get us to the top. What views of the castle and Stirling. Definitely great view and worth chosing a good day to make the most of the visit.
