La Maison Harle: A delicious bakery offering an impressive selection. Be prepared to be patient and elbow your way through on Sunday mornings for fresh croissants. I’m a fan of their raspberry tarts and large traditional breads—perfect for making delicious goat cheese-honey toast, for example.
Fromagerie MOF Didier Lassagne: Remember, this was part of our TOP 5 best cheesemongers in Lyon.
Traiteur/Boucher Vessière: Don’t feel like cooking for lunch tomorrow? The take-away trays from Vessière are an excellent choice to take to the office and far better than pre-made meals (you’ll even make others jealous). Their verrines and starters are a treat and will impress your guests!
Boucherie Barithel: What can I say? Top-quality products, always perfect service, and excellent advice on both the meat and its cooking. Carnivore’s paradise!
Chocolateries and Pastry Shops: The neighborhood offers plenty of options like Bouillet and Neuville. Voisin's chocolates are perfect for lifting your spirits, so don’t miss out!
Market at Monplaisir: The market on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays is an institution. Head to Place Ambroise Courtois to stock up on fresh produce. My favorite is the Wednesday evening organic market with high-quality products and attentive producers.
For a quick lunch, there are some affordable student spots near the Avenue des Frères Lumières, such as Les Burgers de Papa, Yaafa, and What’s that food. There’s also the famous Corep, which saves all students.
Though the neighborhood isn't known for its top restaurants, I can recommend a few for your outings:
Esprit Bistrot: Great value for money and simple cuisine.
Kaffee Berlin: Known for its famous currywurst, huge bagels, and unique atmosphere.
Marguerite: For an intimate and exquisite dining experience, this spot offers traditional high-quality cuisine in a stunning building.
Cinematographe was born on Rue du Premier-Film in the heart of the Monplaisir district of Lyon, where only the factory hangar and Villa Lumière remain today. Enjoy the Lumière Festival every October or watch one of the many retrospective films or new releases shown at the Institute year-round.
