This semi-detached cottage is nestled in the attractive town of Sudbury in the county of Suffolk and can sleep four people in two bedrooms.
Friars Retreat is a fabulous Georgian-style property located in the heart of Sudbury in the county of Suffolk. It has two lovely bedrooms; a double and a twin with a family bathroom. There is also a kitchen and a sitting room with a dining area and electric imitation woodburner. Situated next to the cricket ground in an ideal spot for strolling into the town centre, Friars Retreat is a beautiful, homely place to return to each day that goes by.
Amenities: Gas central heating with electric fire. Electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, small freezer, TV, WiFi. Fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Free parking on Quay Lane beside the cricket ground and there are free car parks at the end of the lane. Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub within a few minutes walk. Note: Key safe for the house, you will be given the combination for the lock code before arrival. Note: Due to it being an older property the stairs are steeper than usual.

Only fifteen miles away is Colchester where you will discover Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum and Colchester Zoo. Sudbury is also not too far from the coast so why not take a day trip and explore the 350 miles of shoreline in Essex.

Summary: Full of old-world charm, dating from mid 17th century, this gorgeous cottage has been beautifully renovated. It was warm and cosy inside, despite some very wet and cold weather during our stay. The luxury bathroom is fabulous (with both shower and bath) and the kitchen well-equipped, such that I cooked a roast dinner on Sunday with ease. The ensuite toilet to the double bedroom was a bonus. Great to have WiFi, Netflix etc, and lots of books and games to choose from. The cottage is ideally located in the old part of Sudbury, only a short walk from the market, high street and Gainsborough museum (well worth a visit, although it was due to close two days after we went for major refurbishment). The lane beside the cottage leads to the Quay Theatre, housed in a converted mill by the river, and beyond that there is a disused railway track, a popular spot to walk, go for a run or cycle. Turning right onto the track leads to water meadows and gentle Suffolk countryside. Turning left leads to Waitrose (!), sports centre (with swimming pool) and Sudbury station. The owners were very helpful with advice, and made us feel very welcome with a home-baked cake, which was especially lovely as it was my birthday while we were there! Highly recommend this property. We didn't want to leave!
