An outstanding and wonderful opportunity to park yourself right on the shore of Lake Superior in Tofte, MN, and do some wave watching right from the deck or head down the stairway to the beach/shore and see it up close and personal. Enjoy the calm and soothing sounds of the water and wind and spend time with friends and family...or maybe a little get-away for yourself! 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with a fun and functional layout will sleep 8 max. if you include the queen sofa sleeper in the living room (it sleeps two).
Aspenwood Townhomes sit along one of the most beautiful stretches of Lake Superior shoreline there is. It's just minutes away from Lutsen Ski Resort, Superior National Golf Course, North Shore Winery and a multitude of trailheads to the Superior Hiking Trail and Cross-Country ski trails. It's just 25-30 minutes from downtown Grand Marais, too! Enjoy the Gitchee-Gami Bike Trail that runs right outside the front door.
The bedrooms are all upstairs and the main bedroom includes a 3/4 bath, a balcony overlooking Lake Superior and a king size bed. The 2nd bedroom also has a king bed, views of the lake and shares a full bath with the 3rd bedroom which has two twin beds. There is a nice open layout to enjoy.
The kitchen and living area are each down 1/2 flight of stairs from the entry. You'll find a well-stocked kitchen as well as a comfy living room with lake views and a 65-inch smart tv.
Please note that the owner of this property does stay here every once in a while, and does bring their dog. The dog is not allowed on the furniture or carpeted areas.
**Note: You'll see pictures of our gorgeous rocky beach that is seasonally accessible via path and stairways on the property. The stairs are REMOVED sometime after Labor Day due to fall and winter wave and ice action. They are usually back in place by Memorial Day if weather permits.
Outdoor Activities – What to Bring
• Everything needed for hiking, biking, snowshoeing and skiing (downhill and cross country), canoes, kayaks, fishing, etc. You'll receive a Welcome Packet once you book that has a wealth of area information including equipment rentals.
• Layers of clothing as the weather can change quickly. Summer nighttime temperatures can be chilly along the lake so bring a light jacket, sweater, and/or hooded sweatshirt.
About the North Shore
If this is your first visit, you’re in for a treat. If you’ve been here before you know what a special place this is. At our Lake Superior Escape townhouse, you have the best of both worlds – an abundance of outdoor activities to spend your days and Lake Superior waves and views to enjoy when you’re relaxing at the property.
If you’re traveling through Duluth your journey can start, there! For example, pick up food at any of the many local Duluth restaurants and picnic along the way. The North Shore Scenic Drive (Highway 61) encapsulates all that Gitchi- Gami (Ojibwe for Lake Superior) has to offer. Check out the North Shore Visitor guide online at: northshorevisitor.com – it will give you mile by mile points of interest to explore on your way. A great reference book is “61 Gems on Highway 61” from William and Kathryn Mayo (you’ll find a copy in the townhouse) or you can order your own copy online.
If you can spare the time, take in a few of the stops and plan for more on your next journey! You’ll see a sampling of pictures in our listing - a few are well worth your time (you’ll need a MN state park sticker which you can purchase online ahead of time or as you visit the parks).

A fun fact: The North Shore Scenic Drive runs for a total of 154 miles between Duluth and the Canadian border. Our Townhouse is 68 miles from Canada and on the border is one of the many beautiful MN State Parks you’ll find on the drive - Grand Portage State Park which houses “High Falls” - the tallest waterfall in MN! Don’t forget your passport if you decide to venture even further north!
