Stancombe Farmhouse is a Grade II listed stone farmhouse, wth a large fully enclosed private walled garden. The house is part of the Stancombe Manor Estate with shared facilities including - all year round heated indoor swimming pool, sauna, tennis court, outdoor play area, large indoor playroom with table tennis and pool table, snooker room, pitch and putt and several acres of well maintained grounds.
The accommodation is arranged over there floors. On the ground floor there is a lovely large farmhouse style kitchen with traditional flagstone floor, with a large table that can comfortably seat twelve; electric Aga, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer, etc. The kitchen looks out over the terrace and walled garden. There is a cosy sitting room with TV/DVD and wood burner and comfy sofas; separate laundry room with washer and dryer, downstairs wc with shower. There is also a back hall way with plenty of hooks for coats and areas for boots, shoes, buggies, etc. The old creamery at the back serves a a great storage area or larder/wine store and leading from here up a flight of stairs is a separate playroom with TV/DVD player and plenty of toys, games and books for our younger guests.
On the first floor there are three bedrooms - one double with king size bed, two twin bedded rooms all with fitted wardrobes providing plenty of storage space and all with views over the walled garden and the grounds of Stancombe Manor. There is also a family bathroom with bath, separate shower, wc and basin.
On the second floor there is another double with king size bed and en suite bathroom with bath/shower, wc and basin. There is also a twin bedroom semi divided by a partition decorated with a beautiful fairy tale mural with a single bed on either side. The property can sleep ten people in eight beds; we can provide up to two cots and two highchairs at no extra charge. Extra guests can be accommodated by prior arrangement (airbed or mattress) for an additional fee. We don not provide towels but all other linen is provided including bath mats, t-towels, etc. We only provide cot linen by prior arrangement as most guests prefer to supply their own.
From the front hallway through a very old wooden and iron door one will access the terrace and walled garden. The terrace area has seating and barbecue facilities and the garden gate leads to the main complex with direct access to the swimming pool and the other facilities. The garden is very large and fully enclosed making it ideal and safe for guests with children and pets. At the back of the property there is a small lawned area with washing line and access to one of three parking spaces; a further two can be found in the main car park accessed from the garden gate. Parking for more than three cars is by prior arrangement.
The house is situated in the heart of unspoilt South Devon countryside, in a area or outstanding natural beauty yet less than ten minutes drive from the market town of Kingsbridge which provides a host of facilities including two supermarkets, pubs, restaurants, petrol station, leisure centre and a high street with a lovely selection of unique shops, delicatessens, cafes, etc. There are regular markets including a bi monthly Farmer's Market, collectors and flea markets and annual events - Food and Music Festival in June, Carnival week in July, Christmas in Kingsbridge in December.
The property is several hundred years old and combines original features with modern day facilities. The site of the Manor of Stancombe is over a thousand years old being listed in the Doomsday Book. The house is ideal for large groups or families; the kitchen table can seat up to 12 comfortably.
There is much to do and see in the surrounding area with miles of stunning coastline and countryside, a fabulous choice of beaches, sandy coves, or huge stretches of beach both sandy and pebbly including the stunning Slapton Sands where the D-Day landings were practised. There are many lovely walks both countryside and coastline, water sport facilities, particularly in Kingsbridge, and Salcombe. Many of the beaches have very good facilities including parking (costs vary and some are National Trust), good cafes, shops, wc, disabled facilities. Important to note that not all beaches permit dogs at certain times of the year.
Other places to visit of interest include the historic town of Totnes which has weekly markets on Friday and Saturday selling everything from collectors items to locally grown fruit and vegetables and a fabulous array of food stalls from all corners of the globe. The town itself is worth wondering around to enjoy the diverse and often quirky architecture, shops, art galleries, restaurants, pubs and cafes. Totes also provides the nearest mainline train station.
The coastal towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth are also well worth a visit and further afield there is Plymouth and Exeter.
