The Sanctuary Cottage is located in the heart of Carmel Valley Village. It resides on a eight acre property with established landscaping and old growth Live & Valley Oaks. Many fine restaurants are located in the village; as well as several renown wine tasting rooms. All of them are located within easy walking distance from the cottage. About half of the property is landscaped in some form and there are many paths to explore and much bird life to observe and enjoy. The large Koi pond in front of the cottage has an enchanting and sonorous waterfall to lull you to sleep or remind you of that special mountain place. Several benches are located on the property and offer varied views of the valley, pond, pool, and gardens. Bring binoculars for an up close look at the seasonal birdlife that enjoy this special environment.
The cottage relies on electric baseboard heaters, double paned wood windows, and floor and ceiling insulation to keep it's guests comfortable. The property generates electricity with a PV system. The slate floors in the bathroom are electrically heated as well a the towel rack. A solar tube provides bathroom light during daylight hours and the single vanity has an enclosed hamper. Screened opening windows allow for ventilation and the sounds of birds and the waterfall to enter the cottage. The bay window in the bedroom has a cushion for sitting, reading, and enjoying the pond views. Shades operate in two directions for complete privacy, while allowing natural light into the tranquil and romantic room. Every attempt has been made to insure the guests comfort during their stay. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern conveniences to allow your creative energies to flow.
The cottage is very unique, cozy, comfortable, and peaceful. You may not want to venture far from this abode or you may wish to linger here in the evenings after a busy day of sightseeing, hiking, or attending the many special events that take place around the Monterey Peninsula. Summary: We enjoyed our stay at Beverly and Ed's guest house. We found the setting and property to be a wonderful, manicured escape that showcased the love and attention that this multi-generational family homestead has become through the careful attention to detail that it's friendly owners pour into it everyday. When we first saw the property we had the concern that being so close to the pond we might have mosquito or insects intruding on our vacation but, the beautiful multi-colored fish, joyful frogs, abundant and diverse fowl made sure that no bugs had a chance of becoming a nuisance. We instead enjoyed the three friendly chickens who visited us every morning for breakfast and hoped to see the kitty. The well appointed guest house was separate and private from the main house and our hosts were very respectful as well. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the seating both inside and outside was diverse and gave ample choices. The kitchen was fully stocked and Beverly was more than willing to provide anything we were missing. She'd provided a loaf of fresh baked bread, a bottle of wine and even offered us fresh eggs from our breakfast visitors. The bathroom was lush with heated floors and natural stone tiles and thick and thirsty towels. The lavender hand soap, grapefruit and mint shower gel and eco friendly dishwashing supplies also added to our experience. The parking was very close to the front door of the guest house and that made loading and unloading a snap. Sadly, the pool wasn't yet open for the year so we couldn't enjoy that, but we did enjoy walking the grounds and found the many flowers, trees and herbs to be a wonderful setting that calmed the soul. We look forward to returning sometime in the future when we visit the area again.
