Quirky backstreets and pretty gardens attract many to wander the streets of this beautiful part of London. Feel like you’ve gone back in time by seeing a film at the iconic Electric Cinema, one of Britain’s oldest working movie theatres. Alternatively, have a look around the intriguing building of the famously open and welcoming Kensington Temple Church. If you visit towards the end of August, you cannot miss Notting Hill Carnival, a vibrant and colourful celebration of Caribbean culture dating back more than 50 years. You are spoilt for choice in Notting Hill for restaurants. Our local favourites are Hereford Road and the Farmacy. For a really special occasion try the Ledbury. For something really simple Zizzi around the corner works a treat. Bars to try are GinTonica and Trailer Happiness. Great pubs in the area include Cow and The Eagle. For brilliant brunch, you can’t go wrong with Egg Break who specialise, unsurprisingly, in eggs! The Shed is a modern British restaurant where the plates are small but delicious, all the food is seasonal and the dishes creative; it has become a local favorite. Notting Hill has no shortage of pubs. The Churchill Arms is probably the prettiest of them all, with its beautiful floral facade, checking out even just to Instagram is a must! For a pub with a good garden, The Windsor Castle is the place to go. Other than the hundreds of stalls at the Portobello Road Market, be sure to pop into The Notting Hill Bookshop, the inspiration for Hugh Grant’s character’s shop in the famous film, Notting Hill. Transit If you are traveling to the flat from Heathrow airport, you can take the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow Airport tube station to Earl’s Court and then transfer to the District Line to Notting Hill Gate station. If you are travelling in a group of four people or more, an Uber or Gett taxi from any airport may work out cheaper than public transport. Notting Hill Gate tube station on the Central, Circle and District lines and is the closest station (5 min walk). Head to Earl’s Court to change for the Piccadilly line or to Edgware Road for the Bakerloo and Hammersmith & City lines. Buses 52 and 452 run from stops located on Kensington Mall and can get you to Hyde Park in 15 minutes. Catch bus 148 from along Notting Hill Gate to get to Westminster in 30 minutes or less.
