Travel Purpose: leisure
Positive: The property was stunning, clean and well located. On arrival you got the feeling of where you were and that the hotel was historic, charming and upmarket. The room was massive, with a large flat screen TV and amenities.
Negative: I am a solo female traveller in her 30s and wanted to splurge on the first hotel of my 4 month tour of the US. I found that the staff were not overall friendly or made much effort with me, compared to other guests. The facilities did not match the price tag, with the breakfast being very basic and not well stocked. It is complimentary, but for the price and opulence perceived, it dosnt live up to the feel of the hotel. Although the rooms are stunning, I did not get a good sleep most nights due to the building itself, its wooden floors are extremely noises if you have people above you, the main light often shakes when people above are walking and it feels like elephants are above you, overall this really did impact my stay and quality of sleep. In addition to this my TV did not work for over half the week I stayed and the staff were very slow in resolving it, often having excuses when I would arrive back. Although TV is not important to everyone, as a solo traveller I specifically booked the hotel that had streaming so I could watch a movie of an evening. The rooftop has potential but the views are basic and there is no bar up there, from the pictures you would assume this is a main attraction but it really isn’t and I did not spend much time up there. The bar was often shut and I was told on one occasion it was shut but when a couple checked in ahead of me they were offered a complimentary arrival drink which I was not and this happened 10 mins after I had requested a drink. There is a lot of room for Improvement with this hotel, due to the high price tag. The staff although friendly should be more attentive to all travellers with a similar level of respect and engagement.
