The icing on the cake in this delightful setting are the beautifully landscaped and secluded riverside gardens which surround the cottages with Dalbeattie Burn tumbling past and the Mill Lade (stream) running through. Sit and relax in the many secluded spots and you might be lucky enough to see kingfishers, otters and red squirrels along with the herons and dippers. It truly is a place of peace and beauty.
The small and charming town of Dalbeattie is an area hugely popular with walkers and cyclists of all ages. The world famous 7Stanes mountain trails at Dalbeattie Forest offer some of the best mountain biking in the country, and attracts riders from across the UK and beyond. With its dramatic clifftops, sandy beaches and forests, walking is a delight with many beautiful walks from the doorstep. From Kippford a must is a walk along the Jubilee Path to Rockcliffe, another little village just around the coast where there is a lovely sandy beach. There are also historical sites and castles to explore including Caerlaverock Castle. Castle Douglas is close by, where you will find larger supermarkets and some wonderful unique shops, and Kirkcudbright just a little further afield, also has a variety of delightful little shops as well as the harbour where you can see the fishing boats returning.
