Just at the edge of the village there is a windmill that used to power the salt panning industry. Join the Fife Coastal Path that leads either way to attractive old fishing villages, sandy beaches, secluded coves and historic buildings with plenty of places to stop off for refreshments.
It is an ideal location for golfers who will be spoilt for choice with more than 40 golf courses in Fife. St Andrews, ‘the Home of Golf’, is a mere 12 miles away with championship courses to play as well as family friendly courses. Within 10 minutes’ drive the local coastal courses at Anstruther, Elie and Leven all provide unique golfing experiences with spectacular coastal views.
For days out Anstruther offers a great selection of places to eat from award-winning fish and chip shops to a Michelin star restaurant, ice cream parlours and cafés. From April to September there are daily ferries and boat trips leaving from the harbour that take you to the Isle of May National Nature Reserve, home to colonies of sea birds including puffins, and the surrounding waters are the habitat of seal colonies. If you are interested in the history of the area the Scottish Fisheries Museum at the harbour side is well worth a visit.
