Beautifully renovated traditional riverside cottage, withnlarge private garden. | House in Touzac

2 Bedroom House in Touzac
Traditional old French stone cottage, tastefully and comfortably renovated, with the river Lot on your doorstep. The house is ideal for family holidays, people who love hiking, swimming, having the river close by - and keen fishers.
The main house consists of a large, spacious open-plan room with a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable dining and sitting room areas, with views of the river from the windows. The house retains many of the cottage's original features, like the large open fireplace, and old stone sink (not now used) all sympathetically renovated and modernised throughout.
There is one cool, good-sized double bedroom off the living room in the main house, with a new queen-sized bed. There is a tiled shower-room with toilet and sink next to the bedroom, with an additional separate toilet down the corridor.
French doors from the kitchen lead out to a large sunny terrace at the back of the house with a wooden table and chairs for outdoor dining. There is also a tiled โlean-toโ providing another cool area for relaxing and dining outside.
The second double bedroom is in a beautifully renovated traditional โatelierโ situated in the garden beside the main house. This studio apartment - with attractive wooden beams and a wood-burning stove โ has a comfortable double bed and an ensuite tiled shower room with sink and toilet. It is equipped with a mini fridge, plus tea and coffee making facilities, and the back door opens out onto its own small private terrace with table and chairs looking down the garden. Please let us know in advance if you would like to use the studio apartment in addition to the main house. (We can provide a travel cot (please let us know if you'd like to use it) and we can also put up an additional single bed in the Studio apartment by prior arrangement).
The main house has a fold-out Futon sofa-bed in the living room which makes an additional double bed if necessary. (You'll find instructions on how to open out the sofa into a bed in the house).
The large secluded private garden at the back of the house is ideal for sunbathing, reading, playing games, or just relaxing! It has many fruit trees, including plums, apples, figs and kiwi fruit (you are very welcome to help yourself when in season) - and provides plenty of areas where you can relax in the sun, as well as comfortable seating in quiet corners under the shade of the trees, which include two beautiful pink and green Japanese silk trees. There are sun-loungers, hammocks, and a picnic area under the trees at the back. We keep one area as a wild-flower meadow to encourage the bees and butterflies.
We have also recently installed a small wooden sauna in the garden for those who like to relax in more intense heat! (please let us know if you would like to use it and we will provide details; there is a small extra charge).
Guests are welcome to use the bicycles stored in the basement/bike shed, with bike locks and helmets, as well as equipment such as the rowing machine, badminton set, and a basic barbeque with electric rotisserie.
The cottage is located in the peaceful village of Touzac, in a lovely area of the Lot Valley, ideal for walking and cycling, and surrounded by a host of local vineyards (far more than you could ever hope to visit during your stay!) There are beautiful bastide villages to discover, loads of country walks to enjoy, and local markets and fascinating brocantes to visit.
A cycle-path - accessed on the other side of the river just across the Touzac bridge - takes you along the side of the Lot to the village of Duravel which has a few shops and a cafe/bar. For larger grocery shopping, it's just 10 minutes drive to towns such as Fumel with its supermarkets and other facilities.
The picturesque medieval riverside town of Puy l'Eveque, just 11 minutes drive away with its cafes, restaurants and shops, is dominated by the church of Saint-Sauveur which dates back to the 14th century, and a little further on, the pretty town of Prayssac has a lively Friday morning market. The Chรขteau de Bonaguil, 6 km away near Fumel, is known as one of the most attractive castles in France, and has been classified as a historic monument since 1862. The Chateau de Fumel - 7 km from Touzac, was built to help defend the Lot Valley during the Hundred years War. It's now home to the Fumel town hall (Mairie).
This is the perfect holiday home, with flexible accommodation, and is ideally located for anyone looking for a base for a river-swimming, walking, sight-seeing or fishing holiday. The river has catfish, pike and carp. Fishing permits can be easily obtained.
It is our much-loved holiday home, and equipped to a high standard. We hope you too will find it a home from home
