Jung House | Yarriambiance – “Mayfair v2.0” Tiny House

1 Bedroom House in Jung

Summary:
Nestled amongst the ancient redgums, on the banks of the Yarriambiack Creek, is the Mayfair (v2.0) Tiny House, which will be your home away from home, as you relax and unwind in this rural setting.
The Space:
The Mayfair (v2.0) is a 21st century version of the original Mayfair. Mayfair (v2.0) is named in honour of the original tiny house, built in the mid 1950’s by Syd and Ed Drendel (your host's father and uncle). They named it the ‘Mayfair’ after a swanky Melbourne hotel that they stayed in. It was a ‘portable hut’, which later became known as ‘Fishermans Hut’, and resided on the banks of Lake Albacutya and then Lake Hindmarsh, in north west Victoria. The Mayfair (v2.0) is a 21st century version of the original Mayfair
It aims to make you feel as comfortable as possible, whilst remaining off-grid. A loft bed, gas hotplate, shower and wood burning heater are just some of the features that will make you feel at home. A flushing toilet with a porcelain bowl is provided for extra guest comfort. The holding tank contains a biological additive which is environmentally friendly and septic safe. This additive eliminates unpleasant smells, reduces gas build up and stimulates the breakdown of waste matter & toilet paper.
Outside, you will have your own secluded area, including an irrigated turf area, a fire-pit and seats and bench tops carved out of some of the redgums that have come to ground.
In the summer months, sit under the shade of the magnificent redgums and take in the sunset, or admire the full moon filtering through the branches above you. In the winter months, snuggle around the campfire and watch the flames flicker and dance as you contemplate the simple things in life, and possibly toast some marshmallows.
Please note that the creek may be dry (it depends on seasonal rainfall), but there are many waterholes not far away that are worth exploring. When dry, the creek makes a great walking trail.
The predominant sounds will be those of the local birdlife, from early morning to early evening. And when the creek has water in it, the chorus sounds of frogs will fill the air every evening/night. In the distance, you may hear a train rattling down the main Melbourne to Adelaide line. Or you may hear the sound of tyres rolling along a gravel road, from a neighbour passing by. At certain times of the year, you may hear the sound of large machine toiling away in a nearby paddock, as the neighbouring farmer sows or harvests his crop.
Please note that pets are not allowed.
Guest Access:
Guest will have access to the tiny house and the surrounding except our private property.
Respect of Property & Other Guests
- We expect you to leave the property as you found it.
- There may also be other guests staying at the property during your stay. The guest sites are far enough away from each other, so that you can keep your privacy. Alternatively, there may be opportunities to socialise with other guests, but that is entirely up to you.
- Guests are attracted to this location for the natural environment, and the sounds of the birds and wildlife that live along the Yarriambiack Creek. Please do not disturb the tranquillity of the property with loud music and boisterous behaviour. Please respect the environment, and other guests that may be staying at the property.
The Neighborhood:
The property is located in the heart of the Wimmera, a broadacre farming area.
On the map, Jung is the closest ‘township’, being only 5 minutes way. In reality though Jung is now nothing more than a collection of houses and a town hall. Murtoa is located 10 minutes away, and is the closest town providing shops and services, including a grocery store, hotel, café, swimming pool and various other amenities (including fuel). Horsham, located 20 minutes away, is the major hub of Western Victoria, with all major amenities and shopping chains available, including fast food outlets, hotels, restaurants, big brand shopping outlets (Bunnings, Aldi, Target, etc).
If you would like to explore the area, then we have a myriad of attractions close by, which are ideal for day trips.
The property is at the southern edge of ‘The Silo Art Trail’ and is an ideal base to begin the journey. The trail stretches over 200 kilometres and provides an insight into the true spirit of the Wimmera Mallee region. The trail recognises and celebrates the region’s people through a series of large-scale mural portraits painted onto grain silos. Many of these silos date back to the 1930’s, but are no longer in use today. They have been given a new lease on life as part of Australia’s largest outdoor gallery.
‘The Stick Shed’ is only 10 minutes away, and located in the township of Murtoa. It is the only remaining emergency grain store built during World War 2 and is the 101st place included in the National Heritage List. Referred to by some as the ‘Cathedral of the Wimmera’, the Murtoa Stick Shed’s ghostly unmilled tall timber poles and central aisle draw the eye upward towards the roof as light spills into the space through skylights as if through stained glass windows.
For those that want to do the full ‘tourist’ thing, then the Grampians National Park is less than an hour away. Rising abruptly from the surrounding Western Plains, the Grampians (Gariwerd) is a series of rugged sandstone mountain ranges and forests rich in wildlife. The park is a great venue for scenic drives, bushwalks and nature study. It is also the home of the Halls Gap Zoo. A network of walking tracks throughout the park allows you to explore cascading waterfalls, brilliant spring wildflower displays, and panoramic views from lookouts. The area has a rich Aboriginal heritage and a number of important rock art sites.
If you are into mountain climbing, then Mount Arapilies is only 40 minutes away. Mt Arapiles is widely regarded as a top rock climbing area in Australia and is world renowned. More than 2000 routes have been developed on the many cliffs, crags and pinnacles, presenting variety and challenge to climbers of all levels of experience.
Or why not explore some of Victoria’s outback, by doing a day trip up to Lake Hindmarsh & Lake Albacutya (both currently dry). If you prefer your lakes with water in them, then Lake Lascelles at Hopetoun is a beautiful small lake ideal for families and picnics. Beulah, Brim and Warracknabeal also have waterholes which are all ideal for paddling, boating or fishing. Taylors Lake & Green Lake are also not far away, heading towards the Grampians. Or if you like your lakes pink, then a trip across to Dimboola to see Pink Lake is well worth a visit.
Getting Around:
By Car : The property is accessible by all types of vehicles, but we are located down gravel roads, so you will experience dust in the summer months, and care should be taken when driving in wet weather.
By public transport : No public transport is available near the property. A taxi service is available in Horsham and would bring you to the property if required (at a substantial cost)
Your hosts may be able to offer a pick up and drop off service to the surrounding towns for a very reasonable fee, if you are wanting to dine out, and not have to worry about the inconvenience of driving back to your accommodation.
Other Things to Note:
Outdoor fire pit is available (not available if there is total fire ban)
- 2 adult kayaks and 2 kids kayaks for hire. There is a small lake at Murtoa (10 mins) which is suitable for kayaking, as well as other waterways not far away. Enquire with us in advance for more info

Guests will enjoy your own private space but we are always happy to chat with you.
